Tokyo guzzler: Day 31 – Tokyo Metropolitan Tower

So yesterday I decided to have a touristy day. I went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. It looks a little like it should belong in Gotham City. It has 2 towers and you can go up either one for free to a viewing floor near the top:

Apparently it was designed to make it look like a Gothic cathedral.

As you can see, it was a cloudy day. Shame because Mount Fuji is just over there too. Think I’ll be going back in autumn when the clouds have gone…

All of the skyscrapers around had helipads on their roof.

Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower – 2008 Skyscraper of the Year!!

Empire State rip-off! You can just about make out parts of the national stadium behind it.

So, needless to say I’ll be going back here on a nice clear day. It was pretty spectacular and surprisingly quiet, but it’ll be so much better when Mount Fuji s visible.

After that, I spent about 20 minutes trying to get out of Skinjuku Station. It’s the busiest station in the world – around 3.6m people pass through it per day!!! Then I went for a wander:

This junction looks insane when lit up at night. Not bad in the day either…

Little temple hidden away that I just happened to stumble across.

Takeshita Street. Childish I know, but I just love the name and it always puts a smile on my face!

In the evening we went to see ‘Lucy’ at the cinema in Shibuya. We basically wanted to see what the experience was like compared to back home. Basically it’s exactly the same, maybe a bit more expensive, but with some really dire-looking Japanese trailers pre-film. It looks like Japanese films are as bad as you could possibly get:
